Ultima Online (abbr. UO) was released on 30 September 1997 by Origin Systems. UO is a popular graphical massively multiplayer online role-playing game based on the concepts of the original Ultima series. UO is considered to be one of the oldest MMORPGs still running, and will be celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2007.
Today, Ultima Online is developed by Electronic Arts (EA) and Mythic Entertainment (Mythic). Electronic Arts bought Origin Systems in 1992. In Februrary 2004, the studio was disbanded by EA. EA merged with Mythic Entertainment around 2005.
Expansions
- The Second Age (T2A) – Introduced a new landmass, the Lost Lands (or T2A).
- Renaissance – The introduction of a new facet, Trammel, where player killing (PKing) was not allowed.
- Third Dawn – The introduction of the 3D-client and a new landmass, dubbed Ilshenar. Ilshenar was only available to 3D-client players up to the release of Lord Blackthorn's Revenge.
- Lord Blackthorn's Revenge (LBR) – N/A
- Age of Shadows (AoS) – The introduction of a new facet, Malas, and two new professions, the paladin and the necromancer. It also introduced the ability to build customized houses.
- Samurai Empire (SE) – The introduction of a new facet, Tokuno, and two new professions, the samurai and the ninja.
- Mondain's Legacy (ML) – The introduction of the first playable race apart from humans, the elves. New dungeons, a new skill (Spellweaving), and a new city (Heartwood) added.
- Stygian Abyss (planned for 2007) – An expansion featuring the introduction of a new race, the gargoyles, and several new dungeons specifically enhanced for the Kingdom Reborn client planned for release sometime during Spring 2007.
