The Undead (abbr. UD) are skeletal minions of the dark entity known as The Guardian. The guild was founded by Manshoon Chembyl, who brought the guild concept over from Catskills where it had been pioneered. Chembyl changed a number of aspects of the Catskills guild template, primarily moving it to Trammel as to make it less PvP-based and more focused on role-play. They were one of the earliest members of the role-playing community, The Crossroads Of Yew (CoY).

The Guardian
The Guardian, often referred to as the Lord of Terror, Master of Evil is the god which the Undead minions worship. To the Undead, there are no tasks too great for their master. As a result of this, they follow him blindly, and will always do all that is within their power to please him. The Guardian craves for human souls, the Undead minions feed him often with these souls to enhance his strength, because they know that the stronger their master becomes, the stronger he makes his Undead army. A failure by any minion is a failure to the Guardian himself, and failing before the Guardian is something which all Undead minions fear. One way in which the Undead minions show their dedication to the Guardian is by building shrines. Shrines are made by all kinds of flesh, blood and other rotten parts which the Undead believe will please their lord. Shrines are made everywhere where the Undead minions travel. Shrines are also constructed after a victory, to thank the Guardian for the good fortune.
Ranks
Ranks are listed from highest to lowest.
| Rank | Description |
|---|---|
| Ancient One | The Ancient Ones were the eyes, ears and voice of the Guardian. No other minions were as close to the Guardian as the Ancient Ones. The Ancient Ones did not show themselves much, sometimes taking weeks at a time to appear. They only came out from their crypts when they have a mission for their minions, or have a message from the Guardian. When an Ancient appeared, the minions knew something big was about to happen. The Ancient Ones had the full respect of all minions, they are larger than life, no minion ever spoke when an Ancient One took over leadership, they bowed, greeted him and stood silent. Ancient Ones often lashed out a minions of any rank. The Ancient Ones are the only ones that can perform an Unborn ceremony.
Renowned Ancient Ones: |
| [Caste] Captain | The Captains were the highest ranked minions, apart from the Ancient Ones. They obeyed no-one except the Ancient Ones. For every caste there was a Captain. Captains promoted minions, and are the ones who gave Skeletons their neophyte quests. |
| Sect | Caste usually reserved for long standing undeads. Former captains would fall into this rank. A sect often drilled the minions, making sure everyone knew all Undead laws and orders, and makes sure no-one stood still doing nothing. Sect were almost like Captains, as they tried to keep the other Undead minions busy with events, hunts and the like. |
| Bone [Caste] | The staple of the undead army. The bone rank of each particular caste is were most undeads rank would stay. Progression would be ensured only to exceptional undead. |
| Neophyte [Caste] | Lowest rank of the caste they belong to. Neophytes learned the ways of the selected caste. Training, quests, reports and caste activities were the main occupation of the neophyte. Note the rank name was later changed to "Undead [Caste]" due to the changes in the guild system that would not allow the guild title Neophyte. |
| Skeleton | These were the newest Undead – having recently received the Guardian's Gift of Undeath and have lost their mortal attributes. They were still very low ranked, but were released from the daily tasks of gathering resources. However often they still would be ordered to work just as Unborns. Skeletons rarely ordered Unborns around, although sometimes it may happen if an Unborn is being lazy. Skeletons had the same restrictions as an Unborn about going to town and visiting enemy lands. Skeletons must choose their future path into one of the Castes in order to advance further.
|
| Unborn | The newest of all minions. The unborn was the first rank which all new mortals recieved. Unborns were slaves of the Undead, worked tirelessly and were constantly ordered around by the sadistic undead. Unborns were punished often, mostly because of their lazyness or disrespect but also simply for the amusement of their masters. Unborns were seen and not heard. They always stood quiet and learn, that is, if they're not working. They were taught never question any orders given to them and to follow blindly.

Above are listed the "classical" ranks of The Undead, with descriptions from the peak time of the guild. During the development of the guild there have also been a number of transient ranks; Overlord, Dread Knight and Unborn Captain to name but a few.
Castes
The Warriors (later known as The Reapers)
The Bone Warriors were the front line troops of the Undead horde. They were the biggest and strongest of all castes. They were generally dumb and they loved war, and to spread havoc wherever they could. They are masters of hand-to-hand combat and they would run up to any enemy without fear and fight in the same spot undead they shattered their enemy, or were shattered themselves. Notable Warrior Captains: Kung Tut, Farel'Jikius.
The Nightmares
Being extremely fond of hiding in the shadows waiting to strike, they tended to sneak in behind the enemies as they fight with the warriors and stab them in the back. Nightmares were as close as insanity as you get in this realm – they loved pain and often have mental disturbances that often gave them good ideas in ways to torture and maim mortals. Nightmares often liked to play games with their enemies, lead on large packs of enemies and split them up, shattering them one by one. Notable Nightmare Captains: Scarrab, Valas Do'Urden
The Archers
The Bone Archers were the rear line troops of the Undead horde and the tactical brain. They much preferred to take an enemy out by graciously firing a crossbow bolt through it's head than take part in any brutish close quarter combat. This, of course, didn't mean that they couldn't fight. Some of the Guardian's best swordsmen belonged to the Archer caste. They just preferred doing their part of the killing with a certain finesse and elegance that the other castes lacked. Notable Archer Captains: Obsidian Scion, Eo AqNithim.
The Magis
Bone Magi were the users of the Arcane Art for the Undead. They weaved powerful spells to destroy the enemies of the Guardian, as well as, to protect his minions. This caste mostly remained closed for most of the undead's active time, usually magis were second characters within the guild.
