The Black Caste (abbr. Thf) was, most basically, a criminal organisation set in the heart of Yew. Created by roleplayers James Kyle (Celendil) and Rich Wilson (Rhyn) to fill the void in genuinely evil guilds toward the end of CoY's lifespan, the Black Caste was a criminal outfit, inspired by the late Crimson Rogues and Council of Thieves.

The Caste was amongst the last guilds warred to the CoY community but continued on after the popular community disbanded. Keeping tightly with the Guardsmen Militia and sticking to the old ruleset, Thf survived as an independant roleplaying body for several months until September 2005 when the last of it's regular members went AWOL. While not officially disbanded, Thf is now, at best, sporodically active and prone to small resurgances every few months. Thf remains warred to a majority of the old CoY and CoRE communities.

About

The Black Caste was not a vigilante troop of Yew's citizens, the Black Caste was not robbing the rich to feed the poor, the Black Caste was not hiding behind the guise of a Trading Company and the Black Caste was not a band of merry brothers in arms. Nor, even, were the Black Caste a mercenary outfit, no; the Black Caste cared only for themselves and if you could role-play the blackest heart, the sharpest blade or the nimblest of fingers then you were welcomed aboard.

Goals

Primarily, and most importantly, to have fun role-playing in a comitted and friendly environment, to befriend their fellow guilds on an out of character basis and keep the mood positive! Secondly, characterfully, the Black Caste aimed to bring the criminal havoc back to Yew, then the rest of the world, that had been missing for so long.

The Paths

  1. The Hammers
  2. The Black Band
  3. The Shadow Hawks

The Disguises

The Black Caste was well known for it's frequent use of disguises. Nearly every member could disguise themselves proficiently and it was extremely rare for anyone to discover a Caste members real name. Not only did this help them pull off their jobs, but it also kept them one step in front of the law, who were looking for a handful of criminals, when really they should have just been looking for the one. Some of the most popular disguises were:

  1. The Red Hand
  2. The Nobles Entourage
  3. The Travelling Entertainers

Laws of the Caste

  1. You shall not steal from another member of the Caste. Should you be caught doing so. You will receive a strike. Receive two strikes and you lose your hand, and thus, your ability to steal.
  2. You shall not be caught whilst "working". Punishment for being caught is a flogging*, with further tasks to prove your worth.
  3. You shall treat those you work with, with respect, and never get an associate caught to save your own skin. Should you have another member of the Caste caught, it will be left to your responsibility to make sure that person escapes with no aid, for you offered your associate none. Failure to do this will result in a punishment of flogging*.
  4. 25% of your gold made, goes to the cause. Punishment for holding gold back is a night of shame. You will be made to do certain "Entertaining" tasks, to bring back the gold.*
  5. You shall not conspire against those you work for. Punishment for known involvement in such conspiracies will be abolishment or death.
  • Flogging — When someone is to be flogged. They are to be beaten by those they have wronged publicly amongst the caste. How far the flogger takes it, is up to him. But members of the caste must be there when it is done, and it will be ended should the person being flogged be knocked unconscious.
  • A night of shame — The person given the night of shame, will be told to do a certain number of tasks; from entering a public tavern in a pink dress, to being sent through certain areas singing songs in little more than a skirt. After all; it is for the entertainment of those they robbed.
