Talk:ERPA/CoRE-split

From MoongatesWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

I think this article should be deleted. It anthropomorphizes terribly and doesnt really offer much. If an article describing this event is necessary, it should probably be titled 'ERPA/CoRE split'. --Saktoth 14:00, 11 September 2006 (CEST)

Pfft, I thought I did a pretty good job on the entry and at least made it amusing. Anything else would just end up far too 'political' and drawn out. - The Scarlet LoLler

I agree with Saktoth. The split was a result of differing ideas on what RP was about, how the aims could be achieved and distrust between various guild-leaders. In the end, the whole ERPA matter became so political that any idea/project was paralyzed or instantly under heavy flak for coming from the wrong people. I wonder if it would make sense to sum up the difficulties to give a warning to current guilds / organisations or if it just would open up old wounds. To summarize the conflict from my memory: Too many chiefs, too few indians. Too many great plans and too little joint effort because of fundamental distrust and miscommunication. Miscommunication was based upon differences in personal and cultural background as well as mutual respect and willingness to cut back one's own ideas. Besides I doubt there ever was a general agreement on what RP should be like, there only was a bigger community so co-existence was a little bit easier. --Gwynneth 15:15, 4 October 2006 (CEST)

I personally don't agree with your analyze, but that's not what I wanted to comment on. We have to accept that there was an ERPA/CoRE-conflict, as it's nothing something we can shove under a carpet and pretend didn't happen. I agree with Sakoth that it maybe should be renamed to "ERPA/CoRE-split" as that's what the article is really about, but I certainly don't think we should leave this out. The text in the article is funny, and someone should rewrite it, but I feel the split is worth mentioning as a part of the wiki. --Gerbo 18:00, 4 October 2006 (CEST)
Maybe I wasn't precise with my comment. I believe a neutral / factual article about the split is important. A "funny" or ironic article might not be helpful. Regarding a rewriting I believe there are others more deeply involved in the split than I was who are better authors. --Gwynneth 22:38, 4 October 2006 (CEST)
Agreed, I share your views on that. Perhaps you could start off a rewrite, and the others of us could fill in what we think is missing? :-) --Gerbo 22:59, 4 October 2006 (CEST)
The split didn't have anything to do with RP or RP ideas at all, it was all about people who didn't like and didn't trust each other. In the end, there's very little you can write about that without some bias so personally I think it should just be left as it is or have the facts summerised in a couple of sentences.
Finally, and one thing I have been wondering about this wiki, is how relevent really are lame OOC politics that have little to do with RP in game to this wiki? does it really need that kinda stuff? --TheScarletLoller 12:25, 6 October 2006 (CEST)
While the wiki is set up to document the RP history of Europa, the CoRE/ERPA split had a rather big effect on what the RP scene was like. The MoongatesWiki doesn't only document IC things, such as events and happenings, but also aspects of Ultima Online, like who Richard Garriot was and what Origin Systems had to do with things. Hell we even have a page about the Ultima games. We do need to have the page rewritten though and revised. --Gerbo 13:02, 6 October 2006 (CEST)
