Appearance

Sineal strikes most people as an imposing figure - although he is not especially tall, he has a typical besieger frame, it being clear that he has plenty of muscle under his thick and bulky armour. Usually only his piercing blue eyes are visible through his helmet. When this is removed, he reveals a harsh and usually scowling face, marred by many scars, the most prominent of which running down his right cheek. He used to be handsome in his youth, but age and battle have taken their toll and although he is by no means ugly, he is no longer a great looker. His short, blood red hair is kept up by a bandana of the same colour, which he claims is lucky and protects him from harm.

His back is marked by the tell tale scars of multiple floggings, a remnant from his days as a troublesome lower rank, although few people would know of this.

Personality

Generally quite cold and distant nowadays, Sineal is not very easy to get on with, at least initially. There are few he would call friend, and many in the militia dislike him, but he does not seem to care. He does, however, display loyalty and the spirit of brotherhood towards his fellow besiegers, as long as they act in an appropriate manner.

When idle, he tends to lean against the lamp post outside the Kings Deer, ostensively "his spot", and either remain silent or make passing remarks on goings on. He generally dislikes working, and will always try to delegate responsibility to someone lower ranked if faced with a menial task. However, when it comes to combat it's a different story entirely, and he will wade into a battle with gleeful relish.

History

Sineal was actually sent to Britain for schooling when he was a boy, something you would not expect from a besieger. He did not respond well to most lessons however and often got into fights with fellow pupils. When he was 14 he fled the school, unbeknownst to his Yewish parents, and travelled the world for a year. When he returned to his home, he found that his mother and father had both died of natural causes. Feeling guilty for abandoning Yew, he immediately signed up with the local guardsmen. As a low rank he tried to keep his mouth shut and out of trouble, but his arrogance often got him into scrapes. Still, he displayed promising fighting and tactical skills, and could be very disciplined when he had to be. Although he was initially to be a corsair, the then besieger Master Garret convinced him to join his division, and so he replaced his bow for a mace.

He served under Klion D'Gar in the besiegers for much of his career, gradually climbing up the ranks, before eventually being made Master of the division. After leading the besiegers for a long while, he was promoted to sergeant for a period, before disapearing mysteriously for a while. When he returned, he was noticeably less arrogant and seemingly more educated - whether this was a result of being tutored in his absence or simply him trying less to hide his upbringing, it is not clear. He quickly rejoined the besiegers and regained his position as Corporal.

Alignment

Lawful Neutral – Sineal has a very strong moral code, and is obsessed with acting with honour. He is particuarly concerned with defending the innocent people of Yew from outside aggressors, and hates to see people get rich off the work of others - one of the reasons he is a firm loyalist as opposed to supporting nobles. However, this morality is very black and white, and he has no qualms about treating those he deems evil like scum.

Additional notes

  • As a besieger, he secretly does not follow the Avatari religion, and instead worships the titan of fire, Pyros, often leading dark ceremonies with his brothers, hidden far from the eyes of the church.
  • Is an authoritarian communist at heart, secretly hating the nobility and Avatarian who he regards as parasites of the work of good Yewish peasants. On the other hand, he cherishes justice above all other virtues, and believes that this can only be ensured with law and order.
  • He is extremely nationalistic, often to the point of bigotry, after having experienced much snobbish anti-Yewish sentiment from foreigners he's encountered. He hates most other cities, notably Trinsic which he insists has no backbone and has submitted to evil races, and Vesper which he describes as filled with gold crazed yet idle merchants, dishonourable and power hungry wytches and a sizeable oppressed underclass. As a result, he revels in Yewish isolation, beliving that this is what has kept the city from becoming little more than a vassal of a foreign noble.
  • Has a passion for gems, and owns a vast collection - enough to make him a wealthy man if he were to sell them.
  • He will sometimes speak with a strong Yewish accent, usually when in informal situations, and at other times suppress it when more formality is required.
  • Has being awarded three champion ribbons, a gold ankh, iron heart a service cross, and being given the title "Beast slayer", along with a specially crafted mace. Has a bit of a reputation for his many victories in the weekly last man standing competition.
  • Prefers brandy to all other drinks, and meat pie to all other food.
  • Has being known to tame wild gorillas and name them "Boba". Although many of these gorillas have perished in numerous ways, Sineal claims the spirit of Boba is eternal and present in all gorillas that he tames...for some reason.
