Sergeants of the Guardsmen Militia

The rank of Sergeant is second only to that of Captain in the common Militia hierarchy. In earlier days there would always be one sergeant for every ten guardsmen. The sergeant acts as a go-between for the captain and the corporals. As an experienced combatant, a sergeant is expected to own great tactical skill and an ability to lead and inspire others. As senior officers, they are permitted to ride a horse.
