Samurai Creed

The Samurai Creed provided a code for both the Bujin'Kai and the Kotodama, and members would commit it to memory, or face the wrath of their superiors. It would often be called before a battle or tournament. The highest ranking samurai present would begin with the first call, to which all present would respond with the corresponding answer. The Samurai Creed is as follows:

• Call: I have no parents.
• Answer: I make the heavens and the earth my parents.

• Call: I have no home.
• Answer: I make Nihon my home.

• Call: I have no body.
• Answer: I make stoicism my body.

• Call: I have no eyes.
• Answer: I make the flash of lightning my eyes.

• Call: I have no ears.
• Answer: I make sensibility me ears.

• Call: I have no laws.
• Answer: I make self protection my laws.

• Call: I have no tactics.
• Answer: I make emptiness and fullness my tactics.

• Call: I have no talent.
• Answer: I make ready wit my talent.

• Call: I have no friends.
• Answer: I make my mind my friend.

• Call: I have no enemy.
• Answer: I make incautiousness my enemy.

• Call: I have no armour.
• Answer: I make benevolence my armour.

• Call: I have no sword.
• Answer: I make an empty mind my sword.

• Call: May Hachiman bless and watch over our deeds this day. Kami no ikusa. In the name of the clan.
• Answer: Meiyo.
