Ritual Magic
From MoongatesWiki
Ritual Magic is the practice of creating or enhancing magical effects through use of material, somatic and verbal components. Many schools of magic (Magery, Necromancy, Chivalry) require only one or two of those components, but Ritual Magic separates itself by needing all three. As indicated, it's invocation is governed by strict rules.
Practioners of Ritual Magic are fully aware of the risks they take in courting this type of magic; those who do not consider the ramifications do not tend to last too long.

Using Ritual Magic
Ritual Magic is used to increase the power of raw magic and channel it into certain effects. Ritual Magic can be applied to any school of magic, or used in its raw format.

Material
The material component of Ritual Magic is the central focus of the magic channeling. The material componenet is the item that the magical energies are transferred into and then manipulated or transformed into a new format. While held in the vessel, the magical effects can be amplified or changed by using words or motions.
Magical minerals are the best items that are used to store and amplify magics; such as valorite, enchanted gemstones and, for the truely stupid, blackrock.
Examples of items used for Ritual Magic include Elemental Stones, and other artefacts of greta power; potentially the Mysterious book of the Orcs, or the enchanted axe Glory.
Vocal
The vocal component reinforces the energies and shape the magics in a particular way. This could be simple spoken instruction, but the more complex the vocal use, the more complex effects can be caused. Chanting, prayers or even songs can provide additional strength and focus.
Certain ritual effects can only be accomplished by learning the chants and applying them to specific materials. Such type of magics are more correctly referred to as artefact magic, rather than true Ritual Magic, as they are keyed to the items themselves.
Somatic
The somatic component directs the target and range of the ritual effect. The movements made can also increase the effect in the same way vocal magic can. Certain schools of magic relate best to specific movements (often referred to as dance) which can occasionally cause chuckles in those watching the ritual magician prance around. However, people who end up the eventual target tend not to laugh too much longer.
