Trinsic Under Fire
Attacked from all sides.
Darlings, as if it wasn't bad enough being harried by that dreadful Klion, poor Duke Irvyn now has to compete with a crater that's showering a variety of nasty things all across the city. What was once a nice stroll in the park has also turned into a hell festooned in Reapers - and at the time of the year when we should all be enjoying Christmas Trees not Killer Trees.
Several reports have been sent into the Poste about this situation, from Duke Irvyn's sketchy notes about which areas of the town are currently in danger, together with some words from the Army of Kaldor. In fact, in a leaked copy of that report your ingenious reporter is surprised that Commander Soulshadow hasn't actually recommended chasing Yewians into the disaster zone.
On the Yew front, one can only imagine the propganda that this will be put to. Your bombastic reporter will be unsurprised to see such words as "They Deserve It" and "Damned Wytches Fault". This would be the perfect time for the Yewish to rise above their paranoia - but your sceptical reporter cannot help but think that they'll take advantage of the chaos to rain down more trouble upon the land.
Tolerance
A special report
Gretcha Gossip writes: Recently, while travelling through Yew, I set about interviewing the locals about the war with Trinsic. During my travels I ended up in Empathy Abbey, where I met a Monk who, instead of giving an interview, handed me a piece of writing - though I don't expect all to have the intelligence needed to read such a piece of work. I thought it only right to have it printed.
A discussion on tolerance - L.N Smith
It is oft remarked by some that tolerance in and of itself be a virtue of the highest order. However, men of this opinion seldom explain where the golden mean of such a virtue lies; that is to say, how much tolerance is best. They might say "Why, there can never be too much of a good thing!" However, it is doubtful that these people would advocate tolerance of murder, rape and assault upon the innocent. So it may be said that a line needs to be drawn somewhere, the only question is, where?
The leaders of Trinsic pride themselves on their toleration of all races and creeds, whilst chastising those who have an alternative view, such as the Yewians. These, they label as filthy and subhuman peasants, and are so eager to see them suffer that they put out bounties, offering handsome riches to whomever can grieviously harm any Yewian.
It must only be concluded that the line the Trinsicians draw for toleration is at class difference and lack of toleration for others. Both conditions are perfectly understandable, if not admirable. The rich-through-birth and their lackeys have always had nothing but contempt for the less well off, and lack of toleration for the intolerant seems a sensible enough maxim.
And yet, who are they defending in this war? The Kaldorians - notable racial supremacists. These people has never hid the fact that they view Kaldorians as some sort of master race, who deserve to own all of Brittania for themselves. Not only that, but the Kaldorian commander has oft remarked at public events that Yewians need to be 'ethnically cleansed', simply for daring to defend their lands from imperial designs. Not to mention the rulers of Trinsic and their apparent love for drow - a race that has constantly proved itself to strongly advocate the demise of humans.
In the eyes of this humble monk, the leaders of Trinsic are not exhibiting toleration by allowing these enemies of all Brittanians dominate their foreign policy - it is simply lack of will. To stand by the Guardians side is better than to be in his path, be the view of Trinsic. They lack the strength of arms to defend themselves against all threats, and so decide to ally with whom they percieve to be the greatest. After all, the Kaldorians are a well armed and well armoured military force, with many wytches to back them up. The Yewish, on the other hand, have only a badly equipped rag tag militia to defend themselves with. The choice seems obvious, and if the leader of the former wishes to bathe in the blood of the children of the latter, then so be it - tolerance does not apply to the working class, and it is better they face the genocidal wrath than good, respectful and most importantly wealthy Trinsicians.
We citizens of Yew can only hope that the militia can once again make up for it's poor equipment and lack of use of occult magicks with the fighting spirit that they are renowned for. However, we fear that it will not be long before our very existance is threatened for daring to be born on a particular scrap of land. With the rebels now gleefully taking the opportunity to provide yet more help for the Kaldorians, the odds are very much stacked against our brave warriors. If they manage to stand fast against almost all of Brittania on their own.
PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT
ISSUED FROM THE OFFICE OF THE DUKE, 10th DECEMBER
Trinsic is under attack from a large number of evil creatures which appear to be emerging from the crater on Paladin Isle. Those observed so far are: blackrock elementals, blood elementals, gazers, nether vortices, poison elementals, reapers, shadow wyrms, and toxic oozes. These creatures are extremely dangerous, particularly the blackrock elementals.
The incursion is for the most part contained on Paladin Isle and in the area of the park, but some creatures, notably the shadow wyrms, have been observed to wander further. It is strongly recommended that you avoid these areas, but be alert! Do not tackle the creatures on your own, seek help.
Official Notice from the Commander of the Royal Guard
As of this date, 10th December, 2006, the forces of the Royal Guard should participate in the following actions:
i) Assist the Guards of Trinsic in keeping the Creatures from the Crater in that area as much as possible, as well as checking Trinsic for other incursions.
ii) Monitor the other Craters, and ensure any incursions near those craters are swiftly dealt with.
iii) Investigate ways to prevent Creatures emerging; any clues left by the Four, or changes related to the craters.
I will assist in all ways possible in the easing of the strain on forces affected by this attack.
Signed, Commander of the Royal Guard, Jordan Jurrel
Letters
To all readers,
You will have seen the beginnings of Klion’s propaganda against Trinsic. No doubt you will see more. He will stoop to dirty tricks, to cast aspersions on us, to mislead us with lies. Do not take his word for things but seek out the truth for yourself. Ask yourself why, if I am a traitor, he has not sought to indict me before the Council by the due process of law? Indeed, why has the Council itself not called me to account? They are fully aware of my actions, which are all in service to the Kingdom. What has Klion done for the Kingdom but plunge it into war and strife?
Ask yourselves: whom is it that Klion really serves? The people of Britannia that his actions leave maimed and dead? Or himself and his own lust for power at the expense of all else? His direct acts of aggression have forced people of all cities and beliefs to rise up against him, and he shall not know rest or an easy conscience until he stops these lies, lays down his arms and learns what it truly is to serve Britannia.
Irvyn Middlethorn Duke of Trinsic
Dear Poste Readers,
I found this slip of paper, discarded in the streets of Trinsic. There was a rather gnawed pile of bones nearby it, so I'm wondering if the person who was considering attending - or running - this event had managed to become intimately acquainted with the innards of a Shadow Wyrm.
Anyway - the scraps that I could read said:
Free Ricardo Ricardo has been unjustly sentenced to Death! His fate could be YOURS! Ricardo has shown us that the Ruling Council of Britannia are a group of power hungry {this bit was missing, assume it was a bad word.} Stand Up! You could be NEXT! The amended Charge of High Treason could be placed against YOU, or YOUR FAMILY! Do not let them do this to us! Protest - Free Ricardo - At Castle British - Tuesday at 8pm (GMT)
Being one to step out of politics, I'd caution anyone who'd attend to be careful; but I will champion those who stand up for their beliefs. Good luck to you all!
signed,
Muldran Skully Shadow King of the Shadow Court
