Ologijak

From MoongatesWiki

An Ologijak, meaning "Troll Blood" in Black Speech, was a type of orc created via alchemy by the last Ashdurbûk of Tolagâl, Kraadu.

Appearance

Ologijaki were huge, standing on average at 8 feet tall. They were hugely muscled and terrifying to look upon. They resembled orcs but were the size of Trolls, often bigger. They often went wrong during the transformation and ended up either dead, short and incredibly wide or just hideously disfigured, even by orc standards.

They wore specially crafted, nigh-impenetrable, armour and wielded huge weapons the size of men.

Creation

With Kraadu's ambition to kill and overthrow the Gothai Magrekh he came to the conclusion he needed new, better and stronger orcs, especially if the first Ashdurbûk Vrashk heard of his son's demise and came to his aid with his army of Uruk-Hai. Using his skills in alchemy and magery Kraadu experimented on many lowly orcs, attempting to create the perfect orc. The majority of them died or were killed by Kraadu himself if they weren't to his expectations.

The orc Brodgar was constantly insisting to be used in his experiments but due to the fact that he was actually a useful and loyal soldier, Kraadu was not quite prepared to waste his life. He was, however, first in line to be changed when Kraadu perfected the "recipe".

Ologijaki were generally stupid. Though this was the point; Kraadu wanted powerful and loyal soldiers who would never question his orders. Few maintained some level of their original psyche and those who did were put in charge of lesser orcs or the Ologijaki whose mental capacity deteriorated so much that they were near enough mindless beasts and needed an escort of equal strength to control them.

Transformation / Breeding

Since there was a shortage of female orcs in Tolagâl, most orcs were spawned in huge pits. Though usually only the Uruk-Hai reproduced naturally, some orcs were lucky enough to fertilize a female. It was in Kraadu's plans to prioritize the females for his successfully transformed Ologijaki since Vrashk had taken all the Uruk-Hai with him. However, Ologijaki were capable of being "mass-produced" in spawn pits like normal orcs.

Ologijaki were initially created through a normal orc consuming a special type of potion on a regular basis. Eventually the orc would experience a series of rapid growth spurts and an increase in muscle mass; an orc consuming these potions would find building muscles incredibly easy. An Ologijak in transformation would also consume huge amounts of food due to a dramatic increase in their metabolic rate.

It was Kraadu's eventual plan to be able to produce Ologijaki through breeding and spawn pits instead of through potions.

Side Effects

The side effects of the potion were, most notably:

  • Death – The Orc's digestive system would implode due to the concoction. The orc would suffer a massive heart attack from the stress of the rapid growth. Or the Orc would die from either the brain expanding or shrinking too much, either causing the brain to explode or just be unable to handle natural functions such as breathing.
  • IQ Loss – As mentioned, the orc's mental capabilities would often decrease to a level of an animal.
  • Rage – Most orcs consuming the potions would regularly enter into blind rages and go on rampages, killing masses of orcs before finally being subdued.
  • Appetite – All orcs would experience an increase in appetite, often consuming other, lesser, orcs to fuel their insatiable hunger.

Introduction

In Character

Perhaps fortunately for Kraadu's enemies, the recipe for Ologijaki was never perfected before the Fall of Tolagâl. The orc Brodgar had began taking potions on irregular intervals, growing to be the tallest, largest and most muscular Orc in Tolagâl. Though Brodgar was also chosen for being naturally large and strong, so the effects of the potion are debatable. But, Kraadu's willingness to allow Brodgar to take the potion showed that he must have been coming close to completion if he was willing to use the potions on one of his finest warriors.

Out of Character

The introduction of Ologijaki was an attempt to thin out the ranks in the Orcs of Tolagâl. Xnath, Kraadu and Prashnak came to the conclusion that there were too many ranks within the guild and not enough players to fill them. Since the original ranks were based somewhat on the ranks of the Guardsmen Militia, the Ologijaki were created not only to be an Uruk-Hai replacement but to be the antithesis to the Besiegers, as the Girmusi (Scouts) were to the Waywatchers and the Ushatari (Warriors) were to the Guards/Corsairs (Soldiers with Archery). Though the Guards can also be compared to Uruki (Independent Orcs) – players who had not yet chosen a career path.

The introduction of Ologijaki removed ranks deemed unnecessary such as Dajal (Youths), 'Luthr'-rank (Apprentice-Rank) and Uruk. Again, in comparison to Guardsmen, they would have been the Footman and Rookie ranks.
