The civilization of Occlo lies hidden in the vales of a mountainous island to the south of Magincia, known in Trammel as Haven. The inhabitants' knowledge of what lies beyond their shores is limited, and to them, everything in the region is part of Huansuytin – the World. The Occloi build terraces along the mountain slopes, upon which they grow their crops. Corn and potatoes and other staples do well enough up here, but the lack of availability of fresh water is a constant problem. Local Magi often spend their days in pursuit of new ways to irrigate the islands' sparse and often arid farmland.

The Occloi are master stonemasons, and are famed for their weapon-craft despite having no immediate neighbors to fight. In their distant past however, before the various mountain clans and tribes were unified into one culture, perhaps even before the time of Mondain, they are believed to have fought long and bloody wars both amongst themselves and the neighbouring city-states of Nujel'm and Magincia. The great and mysterious upwelling of sea water in the island's Salt Lake drags both fish and creatures of the oceans in, allowing the Occloi to become adept fishermen, using their primative reed-lashed boats to great effect.

Everything the Occloi have must be built out of the shades of stone found in their mountains. As a culture fond of colour, they bleach and redden the dull grey stone, and make regular use of a highly prized native vein of marble. Much of their work relies on the squared corner, with pillars – likely through Magincian contact – a common trait. Most outsiders would find their architectural style both confining and claustrophobic, though inside all Occloi dwellings are as colourful and vibrant as possible. Blues and greens are the predominant hues, bearing obvious significance for a race in constant view of both ocean and wildwood.

Despite occupying much the same space as the Trammeline cities of Haven – both Old and New – Occlo bares little in common with those cosmopolitan hubs.

Occlo was the birth-and-resting place of the infamous renegade Paladin and tyrannical warlord, Juo'Nar.
