On the central island between Buccaneer’s Den and Moonglow, Magincia is a natural target for plunder and magical side-effects. Ironically, it is the latter that tends to reduce the frequency of the former. Perhaps the best way to describe Magincia is bright. But then, perhaps that is too kind. Gaudy might be more appropriate. Home to the largest diamond mine in the realm, the residents of Magincia have experienced the sensation of too much money. One of the many ways in which they have found to address this problem involves constructing ridiculously ornate buildings. Structurally sound shops will often have additional columns and supports solely to provide additional places in which to inlay gemstones and gold. The street signs are lettered in real silver, while the local watch wear badges that use precious metals to indicate rank.

Magincian History

The Adarastos dynasty were first to rule over a Magincia seperate from the Kingdom of Britannia. The last of their number to reign was one Gerrick Adarastos, with the death of his son he departed Magincia, and the island's governance fell to Mehdi Ibn Salaad. During this time the Church of Magincia underwent a period of rapid growth, it's power and influence expanding significantly. The Church was controlled by Hutula Sanctos of the Sanctos dynasty. After ibn Salaad's regime fell, the Church collapsed and Lady Hutula returned to focusing on the economy of Magincia.

Following Mehdi's tumultuous reign as Archon, the Truentas dynasty came to power under the rule of Lord Montac. This period saw the city-state flourish in a sudden burst of good fortune. The people's Senate was established, the Church of Magincia was rebuilt, and the island's army reformed into an effective force. Contacts were made and trade agreements signed with the rebel cities of Cove and Vesper, and even the shady Necromantic den, Umbra.

This time of propserity ended with Lord Montac's murder by his brother, Aulus Truentas. Aulus claimed to be acting to salvage his own honour, and was subsequently accepted as Magincia's new Lord. After some months in the position Aulus had himself enthroned as the Emperor of Magincia, a title that hadn't been in use for centuries. His reign saw the acquisition of Nujel'm, and a general growth in Magincia's martial authority. With the Senate disolved, and Aulus' reign increasingly iron-fisted, an air of dissolution began to spread.

Following the fall of Aulus, Magincia went into another decline. The Imperial heir, Marcus Truentas, ruled over a fractured realm, and is rumoured to have spent much of his time drinking and whoring across the mainland. Some years later the former Royal Inquisitor of the British Court, Raziel von Sahyn, assumed power in Magincia, destroying the oligarchic systems of governance established by the three houses, restoring the ancient Mage's Council, and declaring war on Skara Brae. Von Sahyn remained the nominal Governor of Magincia for some time, though was eventually ousted bloodlessly in favour of a Council-supported nobleman, who would rule as Mayor until his own, Daemonic deposition some months later.

In the middle of the 364th year SR, the city's moongate became corrupted, and the Daemonic Invasion of Magincia began. It lasted a number of months, seeing much of the city's residential districts and outer promenades reduced to ash and rubble, a sizable chunk of the population forced to take refuge on the mainland, and yet more left for dead. With the support of Sosarian adventurers, mercenaries, and allies, the Daemons were defeated. The isle is now cut off from magic-based travel, and faces dark times - with almost no economy to speak of, only a volunteer militia to maintain law, and pre-existing social orders stripped away completely.
