Laws of War

From MoongatesWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

The Laws of War (abbr. LoW) were a strict set of rules used and agreed upon by members of the Crossroads of Yew role-playing community. The rules were meant to maintain a "low fantasy" setting and keep the atmosphere fair, friendly and cilivized, as well as adressing the issue of conflict (but there is also referance to complaint management).

The Laws of War

(Taken from the Orcs of Tolagâl website).

General

  • No obscene language or immature attitude accepted.
  • Stay in character at all times. It is up to the respective Leaders and experienced members to maintain this.
  • No camping at enemy territory. If you've been to any enemy territory, no matter what you did there (just walked around), don't return for two hours.
  • All guildmembers must have their guild abbreviation shown, except if they are civilians, or have an assassin class.
  • No Banning from houses, and Remove should only be used in roleplayed context in non-combat situations. *kicks out assassin through window*
  • Avoid attacking characters that are obviously disconnected (but don't expect people to notice in the heat of battle, and don't complain when mistakes are made)

Complaints

  • Respond only in character while ingame, even if others break rules. "But he did it too" will never be an excuse. If caught breaking rules, there is no excuse.
  • Before complaining, think: Is this really worthy of a complaint? Or was it an honest mistake? Have the respect for your Leader and others not to waste their time with petty complaints.
  • Take valid complaints to your guild Leaders. They have contact with the other guilds Leaders. If we see a system where somone is trying to frame others or enforcing non-existant rules, actions will be taken.
  • Leaders themselves have the privilege of warning breakers by party mode. Listen and respect enemy guild Leaders if they warn you this way. The Leaders will stick together, and if you do not adhere to such warnings, we expect your guild Leader to act upon it.
  • Try to be lenient on younger players who have not learned all our ways yet.

Fallen in battle (or being knocked out)

  • If you die, get ressurrected and return to your corpse. As soon as you reach it, hide, loot your remaining gear and then get away from the battle scene. No talking! Not even a comment on rules, fairness, mud etc. Avoid being seen as much as possible. You're currently a casualty of war.
  • Keep the death-robe on for 30 minutes, and do not rejoin the battle. This marks that you are Injured and may not participate in any way, including healing, stealing etc.
  • Report only proven illegal looting quietly to guild leaders over ICQ or Party, and remember that maces have a tendency to ruin armour, shields and that legal looting is not reportable or a case for whine (return the favour some other day if you consider it unjust)
  • You may not attack someone while they're Injured.

Captives

  • If you do not have 30 minutes to spare as prisoner, do not go anywhere near enemy territory!
  • If the battle was started on your Homelands and you outnumber the enemy, then once the battle is over you may take the Injured ones captive.
  • Captives still count as Injured for the next 30 minutes.
  • You may of course still take prisoners without defeating them if they don't fight back or flee.

Example: Two greedy adventurers, Doegan and Rondo are poking through some treasure chests in Tolagl, when set upon by a lurg of angry orcs. After a battle that carries them far off, Doegan gets beaten. As he wakes up, he finds himself surrounded by three excited snagi that, having disarmed him, drag him off to be dealt with in the prison pits of Tolagl.

Looting & stealing

For each encounter, things lootable and stealable are limited to:

  • Up to 500 gold and any number of gems
  • Bandages, food and potions
  • Reagents and scrolls (try to leave a recall scroll)
  • Artifacts are not obtainable by looting or stealing unless specifically part of the plotline or the possessor clearly emotes so.

Restrictions

  • No magical items, unless they are authorized CoY Artifacts (see Artifacts section).
  • No poisoned weapons unless you can poison them yourself and have your skills displayed on my.uo.com.
  • Mages may only use one summoned animal ("Summon Creature" spell) in battle. Thus they may not summon blade spirits, elementals, energy vortexes or daemons.
  • You may not use any spells in combat if you are mounted at any time in the battle.
