Appearance
John stands at the incredible height of 7 feet, with his broad shoulder and muscular body he appears to be a fearsome being. But after a closer look you will notice a kind and rather harmless look on his face. The silly grin that so often inhabits his face makes him look just as silly and stupid as the blank facial expression that suddenly (yet very common) is born on his rough face when asked a question.
A ponytail, completely neglected from any real attention or care hangs down the back of his neck. The before blond hair has taken a nutty brown colour from the mud and dirt. His soft green eyes seem to be the only thing clean and pure on his face.
Background
Born in Minoc but raised on the streets. John's mother worked as a barmaid before he was born, while giving birth to John she passed away leaving John on his own as there was no father to be found. Raised the early years of his life by the barmaids at the tavern were his mother used to work and later raised on the streets of Minoc were he learned how to fight with his fists (which later became one of his hobbies).
One day when John sat under a tree next to the bank of Minoc, a fancy looking middle aged man was making a deposit without paying much attention to his surroundings. The sign hanging loosely over the man's head creeks and starts to fall towards him as John rushes forward to push the man away only to get the large piece of wood in his head.
Waking up at the healers he finds himself with a growing headache and a bandaged head. The man that he so unselfishly saved from damage sits on a stool next to him and looks at him carefully. The fancy looking man presented himself as a rich lord from Trinsic that was passing by when he so bluntly got attacked by falling signs outside of banks, and John was offered to become his body guard at the mere age of 12.
After travelling for years, from city to city the wealthy lord from Trinsic and John Dell arrived back to Minoc. After they had finished they're business they continued pass the mines towards the north east exit. Well at the mines a bit of the mountain collapsed and rocks came rushing down the side, in the middle of the panic John lost track of the lord and franatically searched the place after him, but he was to late, his friend and employer was dead and blood sipped out between the huge boulders.
John became devastated after his employers death and left Minoc to head towards the moongate, where he found a recruitment poster for the Baronship of Cove. Though he couldn't read, he recognised the Covian insignia - a portcullis - on the poster. And so he headed towards the growing port-town. After a brief chat with the Covian Baron, Octiovus von Richter, John was sent off to the quartermaster to be handed the Covian uniform and badge.
Time in Cove
Even though hes fragile mind made it hard for him to advance to higher ranks in the covian army his remarkable size made him looked at as more then gunfodder unlike the recruits, and therefor made it all the way up to junior. Not being able to read or write made the military life hard for John, despite that he managed to make a few life long friends as well as making him some what respected in the covian army.
His hatred for elves only grew for each day in Cove but it reached a top when he one day was confronted by the (as John saw it) evil and very much wicked elf Delcarakdur. The bigger you are, the less agile and swift you can be, this was very much the case for poor Dell as the quick elf managed to push John off the barrack roof. It ended up with John breaking both his legs and ending up in a long lasting coma. During his long sleep he was taken care of by then cook Kelly Sanderson which he had gone very fond of due to her motherly nature.
As John woke up from his slumber, a lot had changed in Cove. Army supplies had run low, a recent epidemic of plauge had infested the region, orcish and undead raid had increased, and a general sense of doom and gloom hung over a formerly optimistic Cove.
In the middle of the dark times the covian army had both being occupied by the Army of Kaldor and the samurais of the The Kotodama Clan, as well as along with their current allies of the Guardsmen Militia, driven a war against Vesper and allies.
It was on his way to one of these patrols against Vesper John found himself lost due to the low speed of his crutches. He was once captured by vesperian freedom fighters and brought to the vesperian inn called Swaggers Inn were he was cross examed with doubtfull methods then dragged home as they feared he was ill with the plauge.
Awhile after this Baron von Richter decided to abandon Cove, to travel with a handfull of troops to Yew. John, with his eternal loyalty to the baronial household followed his liege to Yew, to start his new life there.
Personality
Trying to educate John would probably be like trying to talk to an orange, might be possible but highly difficult. Even though his talents in combat isn't great, his strength leaves little doubt of his capabilities in battle left, John is mostly in a remarkably good mood when he doesn't have to focus his rather dull brain at hard tasks such as trying to open a door the right way or walking down the stairs without tripping and falling on his nose.
When John isn't drunk he can be found either hung over or well on his way of getting drunk, as any true barbarian he consider himself fighting better being drunk, the more the better!
In the rare occasions that any of his friends would be life threatening danger or himself in the same situation, John can go berserk. As his berserk blood line goes back several lines on his mothers side it comes quiet fitting in ill times. When in the state of berserk, he goes into unbelievable rage with a feeling of immortality as rushes into battle with reckless disregard of his own safety.
John is a gentle soul to most people, though holds the likes of elves and drow in deep contempt.
