From MoongatesWiki

The ironarms are the rank-and-file of the Europa role-playing guild, the Guardsmen Militia, situated in Yew. More properly known as guardsmen they are the men and women of the guild unafiliated with any division.

Overview

The Ironarms, or Guardsmen, are the main body of Yew's protectors. After passing through the junior ranks of Trainnee and Footman, each soldier will join the true body of the militia as a Rookie Guard. From here they may go on to join one of the three Divisions, or, should they choose, gain promotion as clear-cut Guardsmen. Should they take this path, they will be at the fore on all occasions. Though lacking the specialities of their divisional comrades, each Guardsman and Guardswoman is trained and drilled relentlessly in the simple but all important ways of the formation. They are the backbone and material might of the militia. Where the Besiegers are the fist, they are the arm. Where the Marksmen are the arrow, they are the bow. And where the Waywatchers are the poison, they are the deadly blade that delivers it. The officers of the militia are traditionally drawn from the Ironarms, and the governors of Yew (be they Ducal or otherwise) rarely draw their bodyguards from elsewhere.

Guardsman Uniform & Armament

As their name suggests, the Ironarms wear no decorative or precious metals on their armour to distinguish them. From head to toe they wear good and honest iron. Plate and maille are the basis of their armour, with the traditional plate arms and chain coif being the only set-in-stone articles. Kite shields are the norm, with Officers bearing the royal symbol (the Silver Serpent). Almost any weaponry is available to the simple Ironarm, though swords and halberds are most common.

Ranks of the Ironarms

All members of the militia must start somewhere. Upon enlisting, recruits are given the basic ringmail of a Trainnee, and from there they enter a life of toil, sweat, and blood. Having passed a set period of service, and proven themselves both willing and loyal, they go on to become Footmen. After this, they become Rookie Guardsmen, and enter the ranks of the militia proper as Ironarms. Upon being accepted as Guardsmen, they will then go on to Veteran status, and from there the covetted ranks of Corporal and Lance Corporal are open.
