Neither notably tall nor broad, Hedlyn ap Rhyn is a lean and slender figure cut from the dextrous, nimble mould. A prodigy in the art of woodsmanship, Hedlyn prides himself on his ability to slip gently out of sight in the forest and stay that way. Usually decked in an unorthodox wood-toned garb that reflects his rangerly pursuits, Hedlyn may strike an unusual sight to others, especially city dwelling folk. Prone to mark his face with smudged lines of dark greens and browns, Hedlyn holds a wild and outlandish appearance with his unusual armour decorated in straps and knotted bands. An arsenal of scabbards and sheathes decorate his sides and back and a mixed array of interesting weaponry unsubtly hang from his attire. Hedlyn is almost never seen without a kilt, the tartan weave dyed the same deep, greenish brown.

Hedlyn’s dark, reddish-brown hair is also prone to be somewhat wild. The majority of it tied back in a short pony-tail, his fringe – seemingly longer than the back – hangs in unkempt strands about his face. Portions of the side of his hair and his ponytail have been braided in varying lengths and Hedlyn seems to take some pride in maintaining the miniature plaits.

Completing the image of Hedlyn are a series of small, intricate knots that lay tattooed to his skin. Knotted, celtic bands encircling his thumbs, fingers and upper arms are stained to his skin in a deep, rich brown that draws attention to his lightly chiselled limbs.

History

Hedlyn isn't shy of telling a story and anyone sat listening to him over an ale or six will likely piece together most of what's to know. The second child of Rhyn, a cousin of Proinsias Lloyd and younger brother of a slightly protective Roisin O'Shea. Hedlyn's roots are spread proudly between Skara and Yew. Proud of his celtic blood and the Lloyd clan, far more so than his sister, Hedlyn made his home in Skara Brae and settled. A source of comic relief for his fellow drinkers, it's also apparent that Hedlyn is trapped in an odd marriage to an estranged wife, Molly, who is more than prone to take the skillet to her "useless bastard husband!"

Role

Sensing an opportunity to get away from home, Molly and the skillet, Hedlyn uprooted himself and returned to his father's old haunt to meet up with his sister. Accepting a position as her right-hand-man, Hedlyn settled down to begin doing the dirty work of his elder sister who is prone to spend less and less time in the public eye.

Personality

A fairly useless rogue, Hedlyn is honest to a fault and naturally compassionate. Often misconstrued as a drunkard, this assessment is potentially a little unfair to the quirky rapparee. Though fond of his ale and 'uisce beatha', Hedlyn has a well-developed strong tolerance for liquor and restricts excesses to quiet evenings and celebrations. Rarely frowning, though far from a simpleton, the sharp minded Hedlyn is a spirited, though calming, presence in many a tavern and forest across Britannia.

Despite his upbeat, positive attitude, Hedlyn does not advocate pacifism and is a believer in necessary force. While his fuse is long, it does have an end and his style of combat may not always be as honourable as his personality once it sparks. Hedlyn believes in a clan system and sees no merit in the Monarchy or the Nobles, something his sister is all too eager to manipulate to motivate his application to crime. An old cliché, perhaps, Hedlyn believes he is robbing the rich to feed his own – though little of the profit seems to get past Roisin's stash.
