Hanse Davion is the son of Arenhurr Davion, formerly the royalist Mayor of Minoc until his death some time after the Judgement City Wars. What little of his family remained, made to leave Minoc by Hanse himself, was sent away to the outer islands of Magincia and Moonglow to live away from the ongoing wars.

Those who claim to know him well either believe him to be a cruel, vengeful, small minded and petty wretch or as a clever, zealous and at times heroic or wise champion of the rebellion against the crown. Either way, his service to Vesper in fighting the crown has given him a constant reputation of being a powerful combatant, capable of wielding almost any weapon or magic whenever the situation calls for it.

The Past

Dates and times are difficult to judge, especially given Vesper and Minoc's apparently mutual lack of reliable archives of information. It is said that Hanse Davion has been in many places at different times, such as serving in the early Royal Army commanded by Xel'Naga to invade Vesper under a man named Samarian before the Crown of Thorns War took place (and then defecting to the Vesparian rebellion), founding a Minocan Militia (now long dead) not long after the Glittering River War, being part of a strange, part knight, part shaman spirit-worshipping cult during the Judgement City Wars, and even being involved with the notorious Crimson Claw bandits during their peak.

The only constant in Hanse's tenure in Britannia has been his association with Vesper, always in some way supporting or protecting its interests and rebellion directly or indirectly. As Vesper changed through the years, so did he and the Davion household. Hanse Davion has been in the Militia for great length of time without veering away to other causes now, a time which has seen him lead the Vesper Militia against numerous threats, raids, occupations and full fledged invasion, and gain the status of being head of the towns Militia for a significant period, appointed by Baron Kain Twothumb himself.

While in this position, the Davion family's presence in Vesper grew dramatically. Relatives who were banished during the original Vesparian rebellion (as a Royalist family) began returning, and the Davion family was granted the province of Vespenland to rule and manage. Despite Vespenlands sparce economy, the Davion's accrued quite a fortune over time, funding many ventures related to war industry in Vesper and profiting from them. There were of course rumours of foul play - accusations that Hanse had used his position as Captain to bend local merchants to his families benefit, but nothing has ever been proven in the Vesparian courts.

The Present

Currently Hanse appears to have largely retired from active duty in the Militia, while the younger generation of Davions and their associates step up to the plate of the Vesper Militia. Hanse himself is rarely seen outside of the Davion estate, and even then only on family business. In his old age he continues to be a shrewd opponent, and though his physical strength has wavered he is still renowned as likely the most capable mage ever to fight in the name of a Vesparian Baron.
