Gravewater Trading Company

The Gravewater Trading Company was founded when the Umbra Council didn't want anything to do with the Slavery, as the laws never changed in Umbra it was possible for the Company to operate from Umbra legally. Most parts of Britannia frown upon slavery but there are many clients and much money to be made in the field. Umbra remains the top client, hiring a lot of their labour workers from the Gravewater Trading Company.

Slavery Rules

These rules were made so that no unwanted acivity occurs, any slaver not following these rules will be banned from the guild. By warring Umbra your guild has agreed to these rules, however every individual or group may have themselves added to the blacklist on our website and will not be bothered

Rule 1: Consent

Slavery within the setting employed by us means that a character looses his personal freedom for a limited or unlimited amount of time. This means that the owner of the slave character may initiate any scene without the consent of this character.

However, YOU, the player, have to give your consent to anything that happens with or to your character. No slaver or owner is allowed to act against your expressed will. The player of a slave character has the right to end any scene at any given time.

All participating players should be conscious of the enjoyment of others. Owners and slavers should not make unreasonable demands that are bound to offend the player of the slave character. Players of slave characters should be aware that they will be expected to surrender a certain amount of their character's freedom to a stranger.

Such a system will not appeal to every player. If you suspect that you might not enjoy it or if you believe that you would not want to meet whatever tasks will be asked of your character then do not participate in this system. You cannot be forced and you will not be blamed.

Rule 2: Communication

All participating players are asked to communicate with each other over available OOC channels, such as party chat and ICQ. In order to ensure the enjoyment of all players it is inevitable to define the terms of roleplaying. The player of the slave character should inform his owner or a slaver character how long he is willing to let his character be enslaved, what he is willing to play (e.g. a gladiator, a worker, ...) and what he is expecting from the engagement (e.g. creation of a character background, getting to know other guilds, to find a place within other guilds, ...). The player of the owner character should explain what might be expected of the slave and how they will be treated.

Should either or both players realise that the expectations of the sides cannot be matched then end the scene. You will not be blamed.

Rule 3: How is a slave captured?

Any character can potentially be captured as a slave, as long as the slavers can arrange for the capture. The slavers are demanded to respect the roleplaying setting, meaning that there will be limits to when, where and how a slave can be taken.

A slave will always catch himself, a slaver will never do this.

No slaver character will ever emote that he actively captures a slave. Instead they will examine the potential victims and make clear that they are interested in capturing a slave. If you do consent to being taken as a slave then emote something that you deem appropriate in the given situation (e.g. *gets taken along by the slaver*, *struggles as she/he is tied up*). Alternatively the slavers might use OOC means of communication to ask for your consent. If you do not wish to be taken then play accordingly, for example by playing wounded or by fleeing.

  • Towns, settlements and guardposts are considered to be guarded and therefore safe
  • Slavers will only become active in wars or battles when they have been invited / hired by one of the sides
  • Players engaged in a roleplaying-unrelated activity (such as hunting) will be given a sufficient amount of time to leave or to identify themselves as interested in playing out the scene
  • Slavers will never work alone, but will always bring hired helpers

Rule 4: Trading Slaves

Before and after every trade all participating players have to signal their consent by means of OOC communication. Any agreement between the players will be void, the players of the slave character should negotiate the terms with the player of his new owner.

Rule 5: Respect

Ultima Online is a fantasy game in which players impersonate a variety of roles. Engagement in the slavery system does not include any real-life opinions about actual or historic events in the world. The players participating will always respect and value the players they interact with, even if their characters do not. All players are equal, having the same rights and duties.
