Escaflowne is Captain of Vesper's Militia, easily spotted for the great, shaggy bear mask draped – at every hour – over his head. He is tall and slender, with piercing green eyes. One can often spot him in the company of his two tame Hellcats; Battlecat and Panthor. However fierce and daemonic they may appear, they have been his constant and loyal companions since his youthful days. The name Escaflowne is a composite of his own name "Esca" and his familial name "Flowne", merged into one as per his tribe's unique nomenclature.
History
Escaflowne hails from the frontier township of Delucia, located in the strange and foreign Lost Lands. Whilst still a child his mother – a savage from the north – was slain in an Undead assault, launched from the vast complex of ruins know as the City of Dead. For many years the defenders of Delucia had worked in unison with his mother's tribe to stem the constant invasion of shambling corpses. As such the town willingly took in both he and his father, Clarca; a tribal beastmaster who would swiftly become the town's stablemaster to boot. From a young age Esca set out to follow in his father's footsteps, and as the eldest child received the family hierloom; the mask and pelt of a ferocious bear slain generations ago. His first step in the mastery of animals was a dangerous one; delving into the caverns beneath Delucia itself, to tame one of the daemonic, flame-belching beasts that dwelt within. He emerged with not one but two hellcats at his heels, returning home to a proud father. In time the twin felines became his loyal companions, clinging to his shadow to this very day. When Escaflowne turned sixteen he left Delucia behind, and set off on his final test. He travelled far and wide through ancient and foreign lands until his journey came to an end amidst the frigid mountains of Dagger Isle. There his ambition was fulfilled with the subduing of a vast and ancient White Wyrm. He descended those icy peaks a master of beasts.
He did not linger in his homeland, finding his skills unappreciated there. He had heard throughout his journeys of Vesper's fight for sovereignity. And so, aged eighteen, he left the Lost Lands behind, and journeyed to the City of Bridges, intent on joining its Militia. For nearly twenty years he has served within its ranks, rising from the lowliest recruit to eventually become Captain.
