Corsairs (Guardsmen Militia)
From MoongatesWiki
The Corsairs were formerly a division of the Europa role-playing guild the Guardsmen Militia, situated in Yew. Formed from the Militia's merger with the naval garrison of Yew, the Corsairs were Guardsmen at sea, performing a range of duties, from patrolling the coastline to waging war against the many pirates of the north-coast. In battle they were some of the most effecitve Marines ever to be trained outside of the Royal Navy, well practiced in deck-to-deck combat, boarding, and bombardment. While on leave the Corsairs were generally heralded as the saviours of Yew's bankrupt taverns, drinking vast amounts of rum, ale, and whiskey - and on many an occasion making the Merrymen appear tame and sober. They were eventually disbanded, due to a sharp drop in piracy, and a complete lack of nautical threats. Though most Corsairs remained in the Militia, joining other divisions or simply falling into rank-and-file, many turned to the fishing and shipping industries, with some even taking up less savoury trades of piracy and smuggling.
Corsair Uniform & Armament
The Corsair uniform varied little from the regular set-up of the Militia. Iron mail formed the base of their armour, with their divisional plate arms shaped of blue-tinted Valorite. In place of a coif or helm they wore skullcaps of deep blue. Common criticisms of the design were it's tendancy to drag Corsairs under the water, restrict movement, and cause sparks (an unwelcome feature while in the presence of explosives and incedaries). Regardless the uniform remained the same from their initial founding right up to their eventual dismissal.
