Captains of the Guardsmen Militia

Captaincy in the Guardsmen Militia is both demanding and rewarding. It is the highest common rank attainable within the force's structures, and it's holder has at times been the Militia's sole leader. Unlike later ranks of Major, and Lord Protector, the Captain would be subordinate to the residing Duke, and wield little to no political power. Under the Protectorate the rank was that of the second in command, though with that regime's end it is restored to its original place. In earlier days there was expected to be on Captain for every twenty Guardsman. As upper officers, Captains are permtited to ride a horse.
