The Britannia Guard serve, like the seldom seen Bloodguard, as a regiment of Royal protectors and defenders of the sovereign's interests. Though not directly linked with the Royal Army they hold a certain officialdom, and are widely recognised as a senior unit of the Kingdom's forces. The Guard is a gathering of well-trained, upstanding soliders and volunteers based around Britain. They are lead by Baron Edmund Fairholm. Though their numbers have shrunk in recent years they remain a force to be reckoned with, often acting as mediators between the constantly feuding loyalist provinces. Their apparent decline could be seen as a side-effect of the ever growing autonomy and political clout of the cities and their local armies and militias. Despite it's recent difficulties, the Guard has never truly stagnated, and is making a clear recovery under the renewed leadership of Lord Fairholm.

War on Vesper

The Britannia Guards later formed an alliance with the Royal Marksmen Regiment, the Collegium and the Guardsmen Militia. Together they launched an extensive war effort on the Republic of Vesper and lead to several months of harsh fights in the northern lands. The Royal Alliance, as it was known, captured the town of Minoc which had been under Vesperian rule since the Moongate-Wars in the year 363 SR (December 2002). The secessionist city state of Cove, formerly on Vesper's leash, joined with the Republic and it's myriad of auxilliaries to form a counter-bloc, the Northern Alliance. The Minoc Campaign eventually resulted in a stalemate, as the Royal Alliance began to fracture, and their presence dwindled. Minoc would remain divided, in a form of political and martial no-man's land. During a lull in the fighting Vesper itself became a warzone, under brief occupation by the Guard and it's allies. All involved would lay claim to victory or at the very least a favourable peace. Alas, the only true winners were the men of Vesper, who, after freeing their own city, abruptly annexed the battle-ground of Minoc and occupied it as West Vesper.

Despite their defeat and virtual withdrawal, the Guards and their allies maintained a small presence in Minoc, launching occasional patrols through streets both friendly and hostile. The montagnard town and its Vesperian occupiers would remain at the fore of the Guards' interventionist policy for a long time to follow, culminating in a slower-paced second conflict, itself leading to the Border Wars.
