Appearance

Standing at the impressive height of 6’2”, Bladius’ stature is likely the first thing you notice about him. However after establishing that Dart is both tall and broad, the chances are you will begin to notice an array of scarring over his features, from a small patch of discoloured skin on his left cheek, to a thin scar winding its way up the side of his face to the corner of his eye. Still, regardless of the flaws; Bladius’ looks remain mostly intact from his earlier years, perhaps a little worn around the edges and scarred continually through a lifetime of battle; his appearance hasn’t changed a great deal.

A long, neatly groomed mane of light-brown hair, streaked with both ash and what could even be blood, is easily offset by a pair of steely blue eyes and even sometimes complemented with a minimalist goatee. It is also with great sadness that Bladius oft finds himself negligent of shaving duties and so is regularly afflicted with the dreaded stubble.

History

Born into the poverty stricken slums of Eastern Britain, Bladius found himself on the wrong side of the law throughout his early life; whether he had pilfered a shiny red apple from a market stall, or broken a window at the local tailors, discipline was lacking in every aspect of his existence.

After a lucky break, Bladius and his three younger siblings were shifted from their familiar surroundings to the island town of Moonglow, however Bladius failed to adjust to his new home and after a confrontation with his father, the young boy departed in a fit of rage, through the moongate and out into the forests of Yew.

Here he became hungry, lost and vulnerable to the wilderness, luckily for Bladius, an elderly forester took pity on the child and took him in, feeding, clothing and sheltering him throughout the winter months. However, it was soon after that Bladius’ surrogate father passed away as a victim of time.

Now penniless; Bladius was forced to accept reality - he was truly alone. After a brief walk to the centre of Yew, Bladius stumbled across a recruitment poster for the Guardsmen Militia, deciding that he could easily overcome the sixteen year age requirement; Bladius set off to Stonekeep, where after a test by the then Sergeant Toban Rockstead, Bladius was handed a uniform and sent to take the oath.

Guardsman Career (Part 1)

After enjoying more than his fair share of attention from the opposite sex during his first few years in the Militia, a teenage Bladius found himself promoted to First Merry Man, a position he treasured.

A few years later after the disbanding of the Merry Men, Bladius found himself summoned to Duke Jaegar's estate, informed that he, along with his brother Robert (now also a Guardsman) had been hand-picked to take up arms as bodyguards of Yew's most controversial noble.

For the short while that Bladius protected the Duke, he enjoyed it immensely, however the work was hazardous; a man like Jaegar was never short of an enemy and Dart was often forced to throw himself into harm's way in order to protect his employer.

Shortly after, Jaegar stepped down from nobility, entering into the Militia again as a Sergeant and Bladius was yet again back in the simple iron of a Militia Guard.

On leave

It was after his return to the regular uniform that Bladius went on leave, finding himself in all manner of difficult situations. After a brief affair with the wife of a Gentlemen's club owner in Skara Brae, Bladius was forced to flee, before being blindsided by a number of henchmen, the injuries sustained suggested Bladius had died and the residents of Skara who had come to know him accepted that belief easily.

Thereafter he settled into a simple pattern of recovery and adjustment to his new life, going so far as to marry and even having a child, however his family life was cut short with the brutal murder of both his wife and daughter after a lightning raid upon their Covian home.

Bladius was crushed. Only a few months later Bladius would return to his old home of Yew.

Guardsman Career (Part 2)

As soon as Bladius set foot on Yewish soil he was determined to set his career back on track, with a great deal of the Militia in disarray, Bladius took it upon himself to organise continued patrols of both Yew and its borders.

After a few weeks, Bladius was granted the temporary rank of Corporal, holding it for a year and a half before settling back into life as a guard again. It was then that an officer commission came knocking, with a promotion to Sergeant only a year or so later.

Bladius was relieved to have finally proved the doubters wrong; he had achieved more than the majority of them could ever have dreamed, however the best was yet to come.

With Captain Stormbrow's return to Britain, the remaining Militia Sergeants seized power; Klion D'Gar ascending to nobility, with Bladius taking up the empty post of Captain.

The years have passed since then, with Bladius even finding himself briefly retired by the traitorous Major Guy D'Mirio. He has since been restored to his old position and has fought in a number of conflicts, most notably as a leader of Loyalist forces in the battle for Minoc.

Still, Dart is no stranger to controversy, with rumours of numerous partners and children floating around the Yewish countryside, as well as two fully-grown daughters materialising after twenty odd years, Bladius seems to be up to his old tricks.

Personality

Bladius has changed a great deal over the years and willingly admits he is uncomfortable socially. He has seemingly forgotten how to behave in public, often seeming forced or fake in polite society as he struggles to combine his veteran captain persona with the flirtatious rogue of his private life.

To most Bladius is rude and confrontational and whilst he generally maintains that most remarks are made in jest, the combination of his delivery and wit often leave many feeling deeply offended rather than humoured. Apologies for these misunderstandings are rarely forthcoming.

Dart is immensely proud and subsequently very intolerant of all but the few whom he deems worthy of respect. Bladius regards the traditions and prestige of the Guardsmen Militia so highly as to be angered by any failures. However, as hard as he drives the Militia, it is himself whom he drives the hardest.

At home Bladius is incredibly protective of his young but large family, where he places perhaps too much focus on the supervision of his daughters whilst letting his sons run riot. However, when he is not attempting to juggle the needs and demands of Tanya and Louisa as well as the numerous issues that arise from almost a dozen children, Bladius is a caring and doting father, as well as a generous and attentive lover. The only foreseeable issue is that Dart struggles to limit his attentions to a single recipient.
