Bantaro

Role

The Bantaro are the village/watchtower gate guards. A role far more important than their previous as a normaly village/watchtower guard. It is the bantaro's duty to search all people who wish to enter the daimyo's grounds. Anyone refusing to show co-operation to the bantaro are dealt with under accordance with the Daimyo's law. No man, woman or child enters the castle or the village without the bantaro having checked their status. These men are now moderately trained in the clans schools of arts but still lack the skills and wisdom of real samurai. When the bantaro are heavily grouped it is often that these men take small armys of ashigaru or bankata on patrols of the castle borders. Bantaro also aim to prove their worth to the samurai by practising orders and formations with one another.

Short Story

Now at the age of twenty the two men Takeda and Yoshi had become well known amungst the bankata rank. They had also become strong swordsmen in their school winning numerous duels. It was only right that these men be rewarded with the role as bantaro their new found honour to maintain the castle's safety to the greatest. They would soon be one of the many respect bantaro that march around the castle in strong formation. They would too have the privillage of leading ashigaru and bankata into fighting off the hordes of evil that tread close to their boundarys. A chance to perhaps use their swordsmanship skills more than within the halls of the clans dojo's.
