History

Aiden was one of two brothers. Twins, infact. Their mother was a barmaid from a gruby tavern in the poorer parts of Eastern Britain, with many a male friend. Bluntly put, she was a whore. It was the only way she could make a living, and upon giving birth to the twins Aiden and Michael she soon found herself unable to cope with or support them. As was the norm for girls stuck in her possition, she bore them to the crossroads in a reed basket and laid them down, never to be see nor hear from them again. Hours later, the babies became cold, hungry, and began to cry. Their wails came to the ear of an elderly woman, who abruptly tottered down the road to their rescue, to adopt them as her own. As they grew she tought them to read and write and how to pick the pockets of the travellers that passed them by. And so they made their childhood living, taking from the stray purses of fat merchants and pompous noblemen no small amount of coin. On this they lived a pleasant and care-free life. Afterall, it wasn't hard work.

A few short months after the twin boys reached the age of sixteen their aged matron passed away. They were on their own, but at least they knew how to survive. Both were growing out of pickpocketing, however, and were no longer reaping the gold nor getting the buzz they had once done. One night Aiden and Michael were in a tavern discussing their future, when Aiden devised a plan. They were to become Highwaymen. Michael would be the dogsboddy and Aiden the gentlemanly diplomat. They discussed it at length before agreeing to go along with it. Aiden became well established and something of a playboy, falling into aristocratic circles, and even – so he claims – bedding the then-ruling Mayor of Maginica's lady wife. The brother soon grew rich, but had also amassed a significant ransom on their heads. Fifty thousand crowns, to be precise.

Their luck would run dry when local guardsmen and keen bounty hunters finally surrounded them on the road to Trinsic. They made a dash for the dense woodlands, though in mid-step Aiden's brother Michael took an arrow to the back. Aiden tried desperately to drag him to saftey, though he simply couldn't do it. Accutely aware of the noose bound for his neck, Aiden fled alone. Cowardace gripping him, he made a run for it and hid amongst a rocky outcrop of the nearby mountains. He could see the torches of the guardsmen heading to where Michael had fallen – with tears in his eyes, and his brother's innevitable demise haunting his thoughts, Aiden made his escape. A few days later Aiden found himself in a run down establishment not far from the imposing Empath Abbey in the city of Yew. It was there that he heard tell of a famed Highwayman's capture and execution in distant Trinsic. Michael, he knew, had taken the blame for both their crimes, allowing Aiden to walk free. While he wept, a dark and sinister man stepped forth from the shadows, speaking soothing words. He gave no name but Ordo Malleus, and spoke to him of his organisation; a band of similarly inclined men, and what they did. Aiden was more than eager to join, and newly intent on avenging his brother's death.

After years of banditry Aiden recieved news of his mother's funeral; a mother he had neither known nor seen since the day of his abandonment. He showed no emotion at the event, and was the only person present. As the dirt fell upon the coffin he walked away without so much as a prayer. He began to wonder; why did he still live, despite all he had done? Why had it not been he at the gallows of Trinsic? Why was it not he in the coffin? Upon returning to Abbywood, he packed his things and left behind his house, its contents, and his lover Bailey. He travelled the world on pilgrimage to the Shrines, helping others with charitable deeds. He would not return for three whole years. Upon that return, he found the hamlet of Abbeywood both empty and deserted. The buildings were falling down, and posters of the Guardsmen Militia were plastered on every wall. He also found a small piece of paper on the floor. It was a ripped and soggy page from the Book of Light. He read it and has kept it on his person ever since. He joined the Militia to prove to himself and indeed the world that he still lived for a reason, and that reason was the Higher Being. He has felt at home in the Milita ever since, following the Avatari faith eagerly, and reading the Book of Light in his daily routine. He now strives with every waking moment to become a reknowned Guardsman.

Guardsman Career

Aiden's career in the Guardsmen has been nothing short of complete success in his eyes. He has never been in trouble, has always kept his head down, and never disobeyed a superior's order. Having been made Lance Corporal twice, he has shown an ability to lead on numerous occasions. He has not always harboured asspirations of leadership and command, however. His age is now becoming a hinderence to him; he's not as fast as he used to be, nor can he keep up during training as well as he once might have. His skills in fighting have similarly started to fade. Although he can often be seen showing junior ranks how to fight, work as a team, and follow orders. He's happy with life at the moment, but knows that there isn't much time left in the Militia's ranks for him. Aiden's plans are therefore to see out the remainder of the year, and mayhaps retire from active duty with the coming of the new year. The Militia remains part of his life, however, and he aims to become a Recruiter.
